COMPANY MOURNS THE PASSING OF JACK FLOWERS

The Officers and Members our mourning the passing of member Jack B Flowers.  Mr. Flowers passed away on June 8th at home surrounded by his family.  Jack was very active in his early years of his membership helping with fund raising, parades and responding to calls.  Jack will be truely missed by the members of the fire company.  The Officers and Members ask that you please keep Jack and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  Below is Jacks Obitiuary.

Jack Bennett Flowers, 81, of Smyrna, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, June 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, the son of the late Ernest Cornelius Flowers & Mary Evelyn (Ennis) Flowers. Jack was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby (Bill) Hopkins; brothers, Everett (Dorothy) Flowers and Melvin (Beatrice) Flowers; and sons-in-law, Donnie Shaner and Robbie Carter.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Betty (Dulin) Flowers; his children, Rochelle (Dave) Finfinger of Magnolia, Carol Rhodes, Carla Cassell-Carter, Cheryl (Jeff) Hurlock and Cathy Shaner all of Smyrna; grandchildren, Caitlyn Finfinger, Nicholas Rhodes, Cassandra (Joe) Dekis, William Carter III, Courtney (Joe) DiCampli, Cayla Carter, Jaime (Erin) Hurlock, Jennifer Hurlock, Donald (Nicole) Shaner Jr., Nicole (Aaron) Shirey, Michael (Tyler) Hill-Shaner; 15 great grandchildren and their spouses, 1 newborn great-great granddaughter and another on the way. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great friends.

Through the years, he was happiest when working NASCAR from the Dover Downs press box, fishing and hunting in areas of Chincoteague and Long Neck and barbequing with family and friends.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in Saudi Arabia and later Dover, Delaware. In the private sector, he worked in wholesale distribution to include Delab Company in Smyrna. Betty and Jack were also the second-generation owner & operators of Graham’s Market (now Main Street Market). He continued his work as a civil servant to the Smyrna-Clayton Community as a member of the Clayton Fire Company, American Legion Ambulance 64, Kent County Levy Court Board of Adjustment, and Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass. He coached for many years and founded the area’s first (16 and over) fastpitch softball travel team – a true girl dad.

Services will be held on Friday, June 17, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Family and friends are welcome to visit 11 am until 12 pm with memorial services to begin at 12 pm. Private burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Clayton Fire Company (P.O. Box 1050, Clayton, Delaware 19938) or Smyrna Clayton Little Lass (P.O. Box 55, Smyrna, Delaware 19977).
