SERIOUS ACCIDENT SENDS 5 PEOPLE TO LOCAL TRAUMA CENTERS

Sunday evening at 5:40pm the station along with EMS units from Ambulance 64, Ambulance 43, Ambulance 26, KM5,KM6,KM9,KM15,NCC Medic 5 and DSP Aviation Units from Trooper 4 & Trooper 2 were dispatched for the serious auto accident with subjects reported trapped.  With a crew in the station Command 45 w/Assistant Chief Joe Jones and Rescue 45 w/7, Assistant Chief Jeff Lightcap made the response in under a minute followed closely by Engine 45-3 w/5, Firefighter Tim Conrad and EMS 45, w/5, Firefighter Mike Thompson. Fire and EMS units arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident accident with 5 subjects injuried, with 2 of those injuried trapped.  Crews went to work immediately beginning extrication and assisting EMS units with patient care.  The first of the 2 subjects that were trapped was extricated in 6 minutes will the 2nd patient took 30 minutes to extricate.  Engine 45-2 w/5, Past Chief Kevin Wilson and Brush 45 w/2, Chief Alex Carrow also made the response.    Both of the subjects trapped  were airlifted to the Christaina Hospital by DSP Aviation while the remaining 3 patients were transported to Bayhealth Kent by ground units.  The accident was under the investigation by the Delaware State Police.  Assistance Chief Joe Jones had the command.  Units responding;  Command 45, Rescue 45, Engine 45-3, 45-2, EMS 45, Brush 45, C & D-64, A-43, C-26, KM5, KM6, KM9, KM15, NCC Medic 5, Trooper4, Trooper 2, DSP, Clayton PD, DELDOT, No photo's of this accident will be posted due to the sensitive.
