RESCUE AND ENGINE ASSIST TOWNSEND WITH FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON ROUTE 1

Friday after noon after just having being dispatched and cancelled on a Structure fire in Middletown the station was dispatched to assist Station 26 Townsend on a multi vehicle accident with fatalities on Route 1 NB just north of Pine Tree Road in Townsend.  Rescue 45 w/6, Capt Austin Moorhead and Engine 45-3 w/5, Asst. Chief Jeff Lightcap made the response.  The rescue arrived and assisted with sxtrication of several trapped vicitims in a mini van.  In total there were 5 priority 4's at the scene and 4 priority 1's and 3's transported to area hospitals in several BLS units and 2 helicopters.  The highway was closed for over 5 hours while the police investigated the accident.  later into the incident engine 45-3 was redirected to Station 26 to cover their district while they were committed on the scene.  Chief Rickie Clark Jr. from Townsend had the Command.  Units responding: Rescues 26, 24, 44, 45, 29, Squad 26, Engines 26, 24, 44, 45, Troopers 4, 2 and Lifenet Aviation Units, numerious EMS and other Support Apparatus.  The Clayton Fire Company would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to all the families involved in this tragedy.  Photo's courtesy Robbie Johnson and media outlets.
