LADDER AND ENGINE GO TO TOWNSEND FOR RESIDENTAL STRUCTURE FIRE

Friday morning at 10:16am the station along with Engine and Tanker 44 were dispatched to assist Station 26 Townsend on a Residental Structure Fire in the 100 Block of Blackbird Forrest Road.  Quint 45 w/4, Capt. Jonathan Burnett and Engine 45-3 w/6 Capt Craig Snyder were both on the street in about a minute.  Both units arrived just behind Engine 26 to find a 2 story dwelling with heavy smoke showing and fire on the second floor.  The crew from Quint 45 split their crew with half assigned to the primary search and the other half to laddering the structure.  The crew from 45-3 placed a second handline in service.  Crews from Townsend and Clayton encountered heavy fire on the second floor and cockloft of the residence.  Search came up negative and the fire was brought under control in about an hour.  Three occupants from the dwelling were evaluated on scene by EMS crews for smoke inhalation.  The last Clayton unit was back in quarters just before noon.  Engine 46-3 covered the northern part of the county while units from Smyrna and Clayton were committed on the call.  Assistant Chief Ray Clark had the Command.  Companies responding to the scene; Townsend, Volunteer Hose of Middletown, Odessa, Clayton, Smyrna, Cheswold, Leipsic, Port Penn, Christiana, Galena and several EMS units from New Castle County.  Photo's courtesy Jerry Hull & Joe Jones.
