Thursday evening at 20:16 Sta 45, Amb 64, KM6, KM5 and Trooper 4 were dispatched for the MVC with a roll over at 2186 Millington Rd.  Units arrived to find a single vehicle overturned with the operator out of the vehicle.  Assist Chief Davis had Millington Rd Command.  The operator refused transport to hospital.  The last Clayton unit was back in quarters at 20:47.  Clayton had 38 members respond on the call.  Units responding Rescue 45, Engine 45-4, Utility 45, A-64, KM6, KM5, Trooper4.

Tuesday morning at 10:29 Sta 45, Amb. 64, Km6, Km5, Trooper 4 were dispatched for serious MVC with entrapment 4200 Wheatley’s Pond Rd in Clayton. Medic supervisor KM5 (Mike Bishop) arrived first and advised of subjects trapped in both vehicles with 5 injuries and requested a total of 4 BLS and an additional helicopter. Rescue 45 w/5 A/C Davis arrived at 10:34 with Chief Davis establishing Wheatley’s Pond Rd Command. The crew from Rescue 45 stabilized the black pickup and began extrication on same. Engine 45-4 w/6 Past Chief Carrow arrived and began extrication of the operator of the second vehicle. Utility 45 w/4, Firefighter Martin arrived and established an LZ for Trooper 4. KM5 (Bishop) had the EMS Sector. Extrication on second vehicle (green pickup) was completed at 10:45, extrication on first vehicle (black pickup) was completed at 1053. Three patients transported to KGH one each on A-64, A-51 & C-51, Trooper 4 transported one to CER. The 5th patient refused transport. Command placed the scene under control at 10:57. The last Clayton unit was back in quarters at 12:10. Clayton had 23 members respond on the call. Units responding Rescue 45, Engine 45-4, Utility 45, A & B-64, A & C-51, B-43, KM5, KM6, KM7B, Trooper 4, Trooper 2, DELDOT, Clayton PD, DSP ERU.

On Friday night January 27, 2012 the Clayton Fire Company held it'S second quarter auction at William R. "Ace" Carrow Memorial Hall. Approx 140 folks attended the auction and had quite a time. Over 110 gifts were auctioned off. The next auction will be in April, so keep an eyes on the web site. Thanks to all who played and enjoyed the auction.

Thursday afternoon January 26 at 14:57 Sta 45, Ladder Company and Rescue 44, Sta 26 for the RIT, Amb 64 and KM6 were dispatched for the reported trailer fire at 152 Pom Run Dr. in Clayton. Engine 45-3 w/6, Past Chief Carrow arrived at 15:03 reported a 20’x20’ Storage building involved and established Pom Run Command. The crew from 45-3 established a water supply and placed a 1 ¾” hand line in service. Quint 45 w/6, Lt. Carrow and Ladder 44 arrived and placed a second hand line in service for fire that had extended into another storage building. Command was passed to Lt. Carrow upon his arrival. Engine 45-4 w/6, Firefighter Robinsons, Rescue 45 w/8, Firefighter Sawyer, Engine 44-3 and Rescue 44 arrived and assisted with overhaul. The fire was quickly knocked down and command returned Rescue 44, 44-3 and had the Rit from 26 cover station 45. The scene was placed under control at 15:15. Tanker 44 responded for water supply due to a non-hydranted area. The State Fire Marshals Office and DNREC responded and are investigating. The last Clayton unit was in quarters at 16:24. Clayton had 37 members respond on the call.   Units responding Engines 45-3, 45-4, 44-3, Quint 45, Ladder 44, Rescue 45 & 44, Tanker 44, A-64, KM6, FM-13 (Schad), Clayton PD, DNREC.  Photo courtesy Robbie Watts Sta 48. 

On Tuesday January 24, 2012 the Clayton Fire Company Ladies Auxilary and the Clayton Fire Company is morning the lost life member Paulena"Polly" O'Neal. This marked the second Life Member to pass away just hours apart.  The O'Neal family has a long history of public service. Pauline's husband Jake (deceased) retired from the Delaware State Police after 20 years of service, her son Benny also retired from the Delaware State Police and serves the Clayton Fire Company as a member, her son Roddy has served both the Clayton as president and Hartly Fire Companies and as president of the Kent County Volunteer Firefighter's Association, Mike O'Neal (deceased) served the Clayton Fire COmpany as a member, a grandson Joey and granddaugher  Heather also serve in the fire service. Paulena is survived by her son Benny O'Neal and his wife Bonnie of Smyrna, Son Roddy and his wife Kathy of Hartly, three daughters Lisa Lloyd and husbad Mark of Dover, Beth Pandel and husband Brent of Felton, and Katie Jackson and husband Bryan of Sudlersville, MD, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren Services are Sunday January 29, 2012 at Faries Funeral Home with Visitation from 11-1, with the service to begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Galena, MD. Tuesday afternoon just before dinner at 17:06 Sta 45, Rescue Co. 43, Sta 51 for the RIT, Amb 64 & Medic KM6 were dispatched for the structure fire at 67 Braxton Terrace in the Heritage Trace Dev. Command 45 w/Chief Johnson & D/C Lightcap in his POV arrived at 17:12 and found an attached 2 car garage to a 2 ½ story single family dwelling, the garage was involved. Chief Johnson established Heritage Trace Command. Engine 45-3 w/5, A/C Lucas arrived established a water supply and placed a 2” hand line in service to the garage area. Engine 43-2 and Quint 45 w/5, Lt. Carrow arrived, Quint 45 was assigned ventilation and throwing ground ladders while 43-2 placed a 2nd hand line in service to the interior of the residence to check for extension. Rescue 43 and Rescue 45 w/8, Lt. Crews arrived and were assigned primary searches. Engines 43-4 and 45-4 w/8, Firefighter R. Timmons arrived and assisted interior crews. Engine 51-3 arrived and established RIT.   Ambulance 64 and KM6 established an EMS sector. Brush 45-1w/4 later responded to the scene with manpower and drinks.  Crews made quick work of the fire, ventilation and searches were completed with negative results. There was minor extension into the residence and moderate smoke damage throughout the rest of the residence. Command placed the scene under control at 17:42. There were approximately 60 firefighters on the scene from all three companies. There were no injuries reported however a family cat perished in the fire. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating. Clayton had 47 members respond on the call. The last Clayton unit was back in quarters at 19:39. Units responding Command 45, Engines 45-3, 45-4, 43-2, 43-4, 51-3, Rescues 45 & 43, Quint 45, Brush 45-1, Light & Air 51, A-64, B-43, KM6, FM-13(Schad).      

 

The ladies auxiliary and company are mourning the passing of Charter Life member and Past President Madeline “Pat” Wilson.   Mrs. Wilson passing away this morning at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Pat was one of the original members who started the Auxiliary in March 1959. During her time serving the Auxiliary Mrs. Wilson served on many committees’s and held many offices up to and including President.  Mrs. Wilson was also active helping the men with different events especially with the annual Breakfast w/Santa event. Pat is survived by her husband Marion, her son Past Chief Kevin Wilson, his wife Pam, two granddaughters Alison  Steele and Ashley Wilson and two great granddaughters, she was preceded by a sister Betty Gregory. Services will be Saturday Jan 28, 2012 viewing from 11:00am to 1: 00 pm followed immediately by the services at 1:00pm. 

On a snowy Saturday morning 30 members of the company came out to help install a new locker system the company had recently purchased. The new locker system purchased from Gear Grid company replaces wooden lockers that were built by membership in 1990 in preparation for our 100th Anniversary Celebration.   The 67 new lockers are blue in color and took just over 6 hours to install. The officers would like to thank all the members that came out on the cold snowy day to help.               

 

The officers and members of the Clayton Fire Company and its ladies Auxiliary are joining the members of the Leipsic Vol Fire Co. & its Ladies Auxiliary in mourning the passing of Ladies Auxiliary Past President Diane Severson. Past President Severson passed away Friday night January 13, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Severson was also a Past President of the Kent County Fireman’s Association ladies Auxiliary. Arrangements will be posted once completed. We ask that you please keep Past President Severson Family and the Leipsic Fire Company Family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thursday afternoon January 12 at 14:51 Sta 45, Amb 64, KM6, KM9, KM5 and Trooper 4 were dispatched for the MVC with a subject not alert at 661 Longridge Rd. Rescue 45 w/7, Lt. Carrow arrived at 15:00 reporting a vehicle that had struck several parked vehicles and established command. Engine 45-4 w/3, Past Chief Hurlock, Utility 45 w/6, Firefighter Carletti and Ems units arrived behind the rescue and began patient care. The operator of the vehicle had run off the roadway striking 2 parked vehicles before striking a large wood chipper head on. The victim was packaged and transported to a landing zone at Delaney’s Church by Ambulance B-41 (B-41 was covering Sta 64’s first due for a funeral for one of their members). Trooper 4 transported the patient to CER. Command placed the scene under control at 15:22. Lt. Carrow had Longridge Rd Command. The last Clayton was back in quarters at 15:26. Clayton had 23 members respond on the call. Units responding Rescue 45, engine 45-4, Utility 45, B-41, Km6, Km5, Km9, Trooper 4, Sta 45 Fire Police.

During the regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday January 10, 2012 Pres. Sawyer and Chief Johnson named Firefighter Gene Shaner & Associate Member Mike Carroll as member of the month for December 2011. During December Shaner attended the following; 6 out of 25 alarms, 1 fund raiser events, 4 misc. events, 1 uniform function, the company meeting for a total of 15 points for the month and 15 points for the year 2012. Also during December Carroll attended the following; 8 out of 25 alarms, 1 fund raising event, 5 misc events, the company meeting for a total of 16 points for the month and 16 points for the year.  While announcing this months member of the month Pres. Sawyer noted the numerous hours that both Shaner & Carroll had put in during December, as company photographers, while updating over 100 members of both the company and the auxiliary individual pictures for the up coming card key access/ID card program that will be implemented later this month. The officers and members would like to congratulate both Shaner & Carroll for their award.

During the regular monthly meeting in January 10 immediate Past President Pridemore & Past Chief Carrow handed out several attendance awards from 2011. 

President Pridemore recognized Past Chief Jeff Lightcap has having accumulated the most points during 2011. During 2011 Past Chief Lightcap attended the following; alarms 204 out of 283, fund raising events 39, misc events 79, drills 32, uniform functions 8, company meeting 12 for a total of 426.
 
Past Chief Carrow than presented Past President and Fire Policeman Wally Hudson with an award for having responded to the most alarms during 2011. During the year Hudson responded to 236 out of 283 alarms. Past Chief Carrow than recognized the top 10 responders for alarms for 2011 with a small gift. The top 10 responders were; tied for 10th- Steve Hudson & Jack Davis w/191 each, 9th - Bobby Lightcap 193, 8th – Gary Faulkner 199, 7th –Mike Harrington 208, 6th– Alex Carrow 212, 5th- Jeff Lightcap 218, 4th- Dylan Chambers 221, 3rd- Skip Carrow 227, 2nd- Roland Timmons 234,1st- Wally Hudson 236.   The officers would like to thank these individuals for their time and dedication to the company & community.      
 

The Clayton Fire Company is joining the Smyrna/Clayton area, and the emergency service field in mourning the passing of American Legion Ambulance 64 member Steve Chillas. Steve passed away suddenly on Saturday January 7, at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover. 
Steve was a longtime member of the American Legion Ambulance Service in Smyrna starting first as a volunteer member before being hired as a paid employee. Steve spent many years serving on the ambulance before moving to an administrative position. Steve will be sorely missed by his family, many friends and the emergency service community. Steve leaves behind a wife Sandra, and 4 son’s Stevie, Doug, Jeremy, Mike, Doug is a member of the Clayton Fire Company and his two youngest son’s Jeremy & Mike are member’s of the Cheswold Vol. Fire Co. He also leaves behind three brother's Bruce, Kevin, Arthur.  Bruce is a long time paramedic with Kent County Emergency services, a sister Karen.  He was proceeded in death by a sister Mary.

Wednesday evening January 4, 2011 at 20:13 Kent Center dispatched Sta 45, Rescue Co. 43, Tanker, RIT, Light & Air Sta 51, Ambulance 64 and KM6 for the house fire at 51 W Commerce St. in Kenton. Units responding were advised the caller was reporting a fire in the chimney with extension into the walls. Command 45 w/Chief Johnson arrived at 20:21 and reported a 2 ½ story SFD with nothing evident from the exterior and established Command. Engine 45-3 w/7, Lt. Carrow and Rescue 43 A/C Dempsey arrived one right behind the other and handled the first engine company and special services duties. Quint 45 w/6, Lt Conrad, Rescue 45 w/7, D/C Lightcap, Engine 43-2 D/C Dempsey, Engine 51-3 Capt. Ballek arrived and were assigned various functions including; laddering the roof, ventilation, checking the remaining floors for extension. Tanker 51 established a water supply to 45-3, 51-3 established RIT, Engine 45-4 w/7, Lt. Crews & Engine 43-4 Chief Brown staged with the other apparatus and sent their manpower to the scene. Chief Morris from Sta 51 was assigned accountability. Crews located fire that had extended into the walls on the first floor around the fire place and extinguished same. The scene was placed under control at 20:44 . The last Clayton unit was back in quarters at 21:20. Clayton had 47 members respond on the call. Units responding; Command 45, Engines 45-3, 45-4, 43-2, 43-4, 51-3, Rescues 45 & 43, Quint 45, Telesquirt 51-7, Tanker 51, L&A-51, A&B-64, Km6. FM-13 (Schad).
