Monday evening at 9pm the station was dispatched for the ladder to assist Station 44 on the residential structure fire in the 500 block of Hawkey Branch Road east of Smyrna. With crews still in the station from company training Quint 45 w/6, Captain Jonathan Burnett and Engine 45-3 w/8, Assistant Chief John Pridemore responded in minutes. Clayton units arrived to find engine companies from Smyrna and Liepsic with 2 lines stretched on a fire in a storage building that had extended into a one story residence. The crew from Quint 45 handled the primary search then opened up for engine companies while the crew from Engine 45-3 assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. Assistant Chief Tyler Torres from Smyrna had the Command. Units operated for several hours. The fire is being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office. Units responding; While on scene the station also had a crew for the other engine and rescue at Station 45.
